Short description
In this demonstrator we have to recall natural concepts as the density, the upthrust and the Newton’s law of universal gravitation, in order to calculate the density of the gas planets in our solar system. Then the students can compare these values of density with the density of water. That is critical to see if the planet would float on the surface of a giant cup of water!
Age of the students
16-18
Duration
3 hours.
Educational objectives
Cognitive
– To understand the clear difference between the density and the weight of an object.
– To apply the natural laws for solving a hypothetical scenario which could intrigue the interest of children.
Affective
– To look deeper in a hypothetical physics problem.
Psychomotor
– To cooperate in order to solve a physics problem.
